The special festival of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh finds its place in Odisha, thanks to students from Karnataka  and Andhra Pradesh who are pursuing their higher education  in Bhubaneshwar.

Ugadi festival or a beginning of New year (as it is known popularly) was celebrated by the south Indian students and Faculty members  in the KIIT University campus on March 21, 2015.

The event started with lighting of the lamps and offering of petals to Lord Jagannath and Hanuman deities.  Around 150 students and faculty members exchanged Bevu-Bella (Neem & Jaggery) and a special dish- Pachadi. There was a cultural program by the students on the occasion.

In spite of students missing the pleasure of enjoying festival along with family members, they admitted that celebrating the festival along with friends is something to cherish for the lifetime.

Speaking to Enarada.com, few students said, “As a customary practice, consuming Neem leaves & Jaggery on an empty stomach on the Ugadi festival day, indicates the necessity to accept both  sorrow & Happiness in the same spirit and proceed in life, and we are happy to celebrate Ugadi from wherever we are. We are continuing the tradition.”

Everyone enjoyed the sumptuous lunch including Karnataka’s famous dishes Obbattu, Puliogre and  mouth watering Andhra Pradesh spicy dishes.
