The Presence of mind coupled with compassion of a passenger and the bus conductor resulted in rescuing the driver and prevented a probable road accident, today.

Renuka Prasad, young driver belonged to BMTC, was driving Volvo bus from Chandapura circle to Majestic, suddenly developed a chest pain at around 1.15pm today near Wilson garden 10th cross while negotiating a turn amid heavy traffic.  Without showing any discomfort, Prasad kept driving as if nothing has happened. But the pain increased and he started losing control over his body. By the time he crossed corporation junction, he started shivering as the pain became intolerable.

Determined Prasad tried to hide his pain but the alert passenger H.N.Devaraju, a resident of B.Hosahalli, Handenahalli post, Anekal Taluk,  who was sitting in the front row noticed the sudden change in the body language of the driver, jumped into action  and  enquired with him. Driver disclosed about the pain and the conductor of the bus Raviraja who was busy issuing tickets, too rushed towards the driver.

Devaraju stood beside the Driver and whispered in the driver’s ears that he should stop immediately and take rest. He kept reassuring him that only few minutes of rest is required to become normal while conductor guided the driver to proceed towards  left side of the road near Bannappa Park on Kempe Gowda road, where luckily some space was available. As soon the bus came to halt, conductor opened the doors and all other passengers who were amused to learn about the sudden halt of the bus thought there was some technical problem in the bus and got down hurriedly.

While the conductor was making alternate arrangements  for the passengers to travel in another volvo bus which was coming behind, Devaraju helped the driver to take rest for few seconds.  Immediately, both Conductor and Devaraju took the Driver to nearby St.Martha’s hospital and courteous hospital staff, looking at the serious condition, started ECG test without any delay.

Speaking to Enarada.com, Dr.Shiva Prakash, Resident Medical Officer of the Hospital,  said condition of the patient was stable as he was brought in quickly.

Dr. Shiva Prakash displaying the report papers, said,  “By looking at the ECG report, nothing to worry with the heart related issue but he has to be in the hospital at least for a day as he needs rest.  I have asked the bone specialist to diagnose as the patient is complaining about pain in chest and back while lifting the legs.”

Humble conductor and Devaraju wanted to inform the incident to family members of Driver, but Renuka Prasad by folding his hands pleaded them not to report the incident to his family members as they may get shock by hearing the news.

For Devaraju, who works in DC office, assisting strangers is not new. He said, recently, he helped a seriously injured person hit by an autorikshaw on Nrupathunga Road, by admitting him in the hospital.

“World is becoming restless. I derive happiness in helping others. Few days ago the same person whom I admitted in the hospital, came to me with a bouquet of flowers and sweets,” said Devaraju, who parked his car in chandapur and boarded this bus to avoid driving in Bangalore traffic.
