Comment on Abbakka creates controversy

Abbakka Rani or Abbakka Mahadevi was the queen of Tulunadu who fought the Portuguese in the latter half of the 16th century. She belonged to the Jain Chowta dynasty who ruled over the area from the temple town of Moodabidri.

ENARADA, Mangalore, July 4. 2013:

Members of Rani Abbakka Festival Committee are seeking the apology of speaker Kagodu Thimmappa for his alleged remarks on Rani Abbakka questioning her services to the country.

President of committee Jayaram Shetty slammed the speaker for his remarks and said that the remarks of the speaker were unfortunate.

The committee members are seeking an apology of the speaker for his alleged remarks and have threatened to give a bandh call if the speaker fails to apologize.

Jayaram Shetty was speaking at the protest rally organized by the committee protesting against the comment of the assembly speaker.  The protest was staged with the support of Mangalore unit of BJP.
