ENARADA, Mysuru, August 9, 2015

Dasara may be a few weeks away but Mysuru has already worn a festive look with the first batch of elephants making a grand entry to the heritage city.

A herd of elephants led by the golden howdah-bearer Arjuna was given a royal welcome at Mysuru. Arjuna, the lead elephant acknowledged the police band welcome by raising its trunk.

Arjuna’s team members; Balram, Abhimanyu, Vikram, Kaveri and Chaitra followed Arjuna as they made their way from Jayamartdanda arch in Ambavilas palace.

Hundreds of Myusreans had turned up to witness this customary event as the pachyderms seemed to enjoyed the music and devotion. As the elephants entered the palace, their feet were traditionally washed with turmeric, kumkum and other pooja items.

Arjuna will carry the 750-kg golden howdah on Vijayadashami slated for October 23. Arjuna and his team members will now rehearse everyday till Dasara festivities and will be joined by another six elephants in mid-September.
