Decathlon, which bring together all sports equipment under one roof, at the lowest price in a self-service format, is set to open many stores in India.
In addition to the existing 3 stores in Bangalore, Decathlon is adding another store during next month. The expansion in Bangalore indicates that Decathlon has earned a goodwill of sports lovers within a short period.
Speaking to ENARADA.COM, Mr. Amit Kumar, store manager of Sarjapur road outlet attributed the success to word of mouth publicity which is bringing more and more people to his outlet.
“The response from the sports lovers are amazing” Amit said.
He further added that, 4th store on Mysore Road near Kumbalgod on Bangalore-Mysore high way is opening in the month of December to cater to the needs of sports lovers residing in and around Bangalore – west.
The existing stores on Sarjapur road, Bannerghatta Road and Whitefield in the outskirts of Bangalore, have become a craze for sports lovers.
“Apart from merchandising quality sports equipment, accessories, readymade dress, spare parts, we encourage sports events” Amit said.
He mentioned that 20 to 30 groups participates during weekend events which includes Football, Galli cricket, Archery and Hockey.
Decathlon is starting new outlets in Kochi , Coimbatore , Pune and Ludhiana in the next few months.
The entry to Decathlon stores was restricted to ‘Members’ initially but after the relaxation in FDI rules, stores are open to general public.
From the first Decathlon store in Englos, northern France in 1976 to the latest stores in India, Decathlon has managed to change the mindset of people about Sports. It has made sports ‘affordable’ and most enjoyable.
With 50000 plus employees and more than 600 stores across the globe, Decathlon is sportingly promoting sports by manufacturing and trading quality sports products under one roof.
