ENARADA, Bengaluru, November 7, 2014

It was 7.45am. A poor woman from north India (presumably , as she speaks only Hindi) collapsed on the main road near Khoday’s factory , diagonally opposite City Railway Station. Few workers form the Khoday’s and security guards of the factory, shifted her to footpath as the road is vulnerable to heavy traffic and there could be chances that speed moving vehicle may run over her.

Khoday’s workers even covered her with a blanket as her dress was torn. Enarada reporter was at the spot from 10.40am to 12noon to check how the Government machinery works to help women in distress.

When over reporter contacted the Khoday’s security personnel, they confirmed that they  had informed the police about the incident and police constable who had arrived there at 10.30am went back saying that he would return within 30 minutes.

Later our reporter approached the traffic police constable who was on his duty just few meters away. He said the jurisdiction where the woman was lying falls under  Sheshadripuram police station but he is from Chickpet police station. But still he came to help the woman. Seeing the police and our reporter, an auto driver with the helping nature came rushing with water bottle and sprinkled water on her, she woke up and said why are we trying to put water on her. “Kyo paani dal rahe ho?”, she asked and closed her eyes again. She was totally exhausted and she did not have any energy left even to open her eyes again.

On a condition of anonymity, another police constable who was passing that area said, police can shift dead body without any risk but if the person is alive , the law is complicated to take  to hospital and  provide medical treatment.General public, social service organisations or Mahila Sayaha Vani can be of some help, he suggested.

However, traffic police constable from chickpet  confirmed that he has sent a message again  to Sheshadripuram police station to find a solution to the issue.

But, till 12 noon, there was no one to take care of her. She was suffering under hot sun.  We are covering this story,to create awareness on similar cases occurring in different parts of the city . At the age, where communication is just a seconds away, why there is so much delay and inaction?
