Mysore, June 13, 2013:

In order to streamline the Public Distribution System (PDS) the Mysore District Administration in association with Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) proposes to install ‘Biometric-Operated Automatic Electronic Weighing and Point of Sale’ machines at all Fair Price Shops in district.

This measure was also to ensure that citizens are not cheated by unscrupulous persons at Fair Price Shops. These machines, supplied by Logitronics Automation India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, will be installed at 200 fair price shops located in city and taluk in the first phase and the same would be extended throughout the district in the second phase.

These machines get activated only after the ration card holder stamps his thumb impression on the touch-screen of the system which will automatically display the quantum of rations to which he/she is eligible besides preparing and presenting a bill for the same and also giving an audio detail of the bill.

A live demonstration on the functioning of the machine was given at a meeting held in DC’s office here this morning in which Area Sales Manager of the Bangalore-based company, Suresh explained about the features of the machine.

It is reported that such machines have already been kept at all the Fair Price Shops in the district and the same would be activated at 200 shops in the first phase. After implementation of the same, the district can boast of being the only district in the State to have such a facility.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ramegowda presided over the meeting attended by Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Kumuda Girish and officials of BSNL.
