ENARADA, Mysore, November 10, 2013:

Tippu sultan’s birth anniversary was celebrated in the congress office for the first time ever since the formation of Congress Party.

“Tippu sultan was the first freedom fighter who fought against the British in the mid eighteenth century and was never communal and a secular person” said MP A H Viswnath.  He was speaking on the occasion of 263rd birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan which was celebrated at the Congress party office on Sayyaji Rao road in Mysore today.

He said that the portrait of Tipu sultan and kittur rani chennamma should be put up in all government offices.

“During veerappa moily’s  tenure  as chief minister a decision was taken regarding this and accordingly their portraits have been put up at offices in Vidhana Soudha” Vishwanath said.

He offered floral tribute to the photo of Tippu sultan and urged the government to declare a holiday on Nov 10.
