Bangalore, March 6, 2013:

It is that time of the year when students at IIM Bangalore gear up for their final placements season. With multiple
companies waiting to hire the best talent across the county, IIMB’s final placements are keenly followed throughout the country.

However, beating the conventional trend, there are students who prefer to walk down the entrepreneurship lane. Aditya Kulkarni, a student of 2011-2013 batch at IIM Bangalore, is one such student who has
voluntarily opted out of the process.

Always interested in the education sector, Aditya, along his friend  Rishikar, an alumnus of IIT Madras, has founded ‘Learning Outcomes’, a company that aims at making child assessment in schools a holistic process.

Says Aditya, “There are quite a few standard tests available today to evaluate a child’s performance but there is a serious need for an effective diagnostic tool.”

Their aim is to make assessments at schools a pedagogical tool and not a tool for measurement. He believes that schools have ample data about a child’s performance but the same is not used for identifying their capabilities and help them improvise. Learning Outcomes does exactly that. It will help in analysing data and generate results that can in turn be used as a feedback mechanism that will complete the learning loop. They plan to make Learning Outcomes an efficient way for teachers to engage parents in their child’s growth.

Currently the venture has tie ups with schools in Pune and they are now slowly expanding to Mumbai and Bangalore.

As per Aditya, “My tenure at IIM Bangalore has been very enriching and has given me the strength to take this plunge into a business area relatively unexplored. NSRCEL, the entrepreneurship incubation cell of IIM Bangalore, has been very co-operative and has extended monetary and advisory help whenever needed.”

Aditya even opted out from the summer placements during his first year at the institute. He interned with the Planning Commission of India in the education vertical at a time when the 12th Five Year Plan was being finalised. A graduate in electronics from BITS Pilani, Aditya comes from a family of teachers.

He signs off by saying, “I have set out to do what I love most; seeing children actually transforming their lives for the better in schools.”
