ENARADA, Mangalore, September 10, 2013:
On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, Mangalore witnessed the inauguration of Kadali Kala Kendra, an organization which aims to rekindle interest about Yakshagana in young children.
Kadali Kala Kendra is located in the compound of Kadri Temple, near Kadri and would work for instilling the taste of Yakshagana in young children at a young age. It was inaugurated by Shri Vedamurthy Vittaldasa Tantri of Derebail in a glittering function held in the Town Hall recently. The programme was presided over by Jayaram Bhat, CEO of Karnataka Bank in the presence of other guests like Kumble Sundara Rao, Harikrishna Punaroor, Pradeep kumar Kalkura, Dr Raghavendra bhat, K L Kudantharaya and Dinesh Devadiga Kadri.
Yakshagana the rich folk art of Karnataka has evolved beautifully to the changing needs and times. One of the major developments in the field is the establishment of Children’s’ Mela in Yakshagana and Kadali Kala Kendra would be an addition to the existing children’s melas with the main objective of ensuring that the rich tradition of yakshagana continues with the same fervor and passion. Ramesh Bhat Kadri, who is the brain behind this institution, says that Kadali Kala Kendra is established to familiarize young children with our rich culture and heritage.
Kadali Kala Kendra will operate from its 750 sq feet spacious hall cum office located in the compound of Kadri Temple. It is an effort to inculcate the love of Yakshagana in children and the training will be free of cost. Interested children will be trained in yakshagana, music, dance, Bhagavathige, painting, harikatha, chende, makeup, Harmonium, Veena, bhajans, talamaddale and costumes by expert teachers.
As part of the inaugural programme D J Balakrishna and team from Bangalore presented Carnatic Classical music. This was followed by Yakshagana “Sudarshana Garvabhaganga” by the students of Kadali Kala Kendra.
