Its lip-smacking time for fish lovers as Bengaluru is all set to host the second edition of Karnataka Mathsya Mela 2017.

The fisheries department is organizing the programme at Kanteerava stadium from December 8-11 to create awareness on fisheries. It will also provide a single point access to developmental schemes and knowledge on the fisheries industry. Coincidentally, this event will also mark the six-decade existence of the fisheries department (fisheries department was established in 1957).

Addressing a press conference today, Fisheries Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said that the main objective of the Mathsya Mela was to connect industries and institutions with the public, farmers and fishermen.

He said that the Mela would provide a common platform for diversified fisheries, stakeholders to establish a strategic partnership and to give impetus to technology led fisheries department.

The main attractions of Mathsya mela are ornamental fish gallery, ornamental fish competitions, and informative theme area and fish recipe competitions. The entry to this event is free.

The Minister criticized the Goa government’s proposal to impose tax on the trucks carrying fish for sale outside the State.

When the scribes quizzed him about the rumors of him shifting to the BJP, the minister clarified that he was not moving out of the Congress. The minister said that though the opposition parties were trying to catch him, he was escaping from their ‘nets’. Meanwhile, Pramod had stayed away from the CM’s programme in Udupi.
