ENARADA, Bhubaneswar, July 3, 2014

The Medical Council of India (MCI) is reducing MBBS seats in ‘poorly Maintained’ medical colleges across the country and at the same time granting additional seats to  colleges with good infrastructure.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India has approved 50 more MBBS seats in Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), a constituent of KIIT University.

The Ministry increased the number of seats in KIMS from 100 to 150 for the academic year 2014 – 15 under Section 10A of IMC Act, 1956 following recommendations of Medical Council of India (MCI) vide its letter no. 37(1) (I-20)(UG)/2013-Med./113851 dated 10.06.2014.

Recently, MCI conducted a complete verification of KIMS regarding its infrastructural facilities in terms of teaching and non-teaching staff, buildings, equipment and hospital facilities as per MCI’s norm. It was satisfied with the facilities maintained at KIMS.

Expressing his satisfaction, Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KIMS thanked Govt. of India, MCI and Govt. of Odisha for approving additional seats in KIMS.
