KSOU signs MoU with West Bengal Government

Enarada, Mysore, June 18, 2013:

The Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), one of the premier distance education institution in the country  signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of West Bengal to train 30,000 higher primary in-service teachers in that State in the next two years.

In a press release issued here today Thejasvi Naviloor, Planning and Development Officer, KSOU said that the project of  West Bengal Government under the mandate of Right to Education Act, 2009  Netaji Subash Open University (NSOU), Kolkata, has been identified as the nodal agency to implement the training programme and accord B.Ed. degrees at the end of the project to all successful candidates.

The project envisages KSOU as a provider university and will share the self-learning material related to B.Ed. Open and Distance Programme for a period of two years and the Government of West Bengal has agreed to pay user fee of Rs. 12 crore in the first phase. The study material has been customised for the purpose and would be supported with devise independent ICT-based learning content for the duration of the project.

In addition to it, five dedicated web radio channels with three in English and two in Bengali will deliver radio lectures round-the-clock. It can be accessed free of cost by the teachers enrolled under the project.

KSOU Vice-Chancellor M.G. Krishnan said that KSOU was extremely proud to engage in the noble cause of training primary school teachers and said that the NSOU got quality content and delivery. The MoU was signed yesterday by the in charge Registrar of KSOU Vikram Raj Urs and Registrar of NSOU Debesh Roy. Law Officer of the Government of West Bengal Jayanta Dhali was present.
