Maniapl gang rape accused given to police custody

Enarada, Udupi, July 1, 2013:

The police got custody of two of the accused in the Manipal gang rape case for five days.  Accused Hariprasad and Anand  were remanded to police custody by  district court today, July 1, 2013.

The court also ordered to conduct the DNA test of both the accused.  Before producing the accused in the court both were taken to Ajjarkad government hospital for medical examination.

Anand was discharged from the hospital yesterday as he had attempted suicide fearing police arrest when the police got clue of his involvement in the incident following the arrest of Yogish and Hariprasad.

The other accused Yogish who had consumed poison, is still recuperating and his condition is said to be improving.

It is not clear when the DNA test will be conducted, as directed by the court.  Manipal police have registered a complaint of suicide against Anand.  A similar complaint has been filed against Yogish in Hiriadka police station.

All the three accused were arrested on June 27, 2013, in a dramatic fashion almost one week after the gang rape incident of a medical college student of Manipal.
