Mysore, June 12, 2013:

Science on Wheels, a joint initiative of Larsen & Toubro Public Charitable Trust, Agastya International Foundation, Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, and the Department of Public Instruction,  was launched in the city today.

Formally the project was launched at the Government High School at Hinkal.

A van equipped with specially designed science models and manned by two instructors will visit various schools in Mysore district to conduct workshops for underprivileged students. Unique models and the methodology followed in the workshops will help improve the students’ understanding of science concepts, a press release said.

At least 20 select government high schools in Mysore Rural educational block will be covered during the academic year. Schools that do not have a fully equipped science lab have been selected to be covered under the project, according to the release.

Larsen & Toubro, India’s leading engineering and Construction Company with its Public Charitable Trust recently entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Agastya International Foundation and launched the science project in Mysore.

Most of the experiments that will be conducted during the workshops are simple and use material that is commonly available. The lab also has a working model of the solar system. Children can relate better to concepts explained through interactive demonstrations. They will learn about rotation and revolution, effects of gravitation, eclipses, and how the brain deciphers signals, through the innovative models developed by resource persons of the foundation.
