Mysore University to establish a Campus at Chamarajanagar

ENARADA, Mysore, July 2,2013:

The University of Mysore has intended to establish a mini university campus in Chamarajanagara , one of the most back ward district in the state.   For this purpose ,University has sought financial help from the state government , said Prof K S Rangappa, vice chancellor  here today .

Speaking to journalists he said that the university has already acquired 47 acres of land.   “University  sought Rs 154 crores from the state government to open mini campus besides centers at Hassan and Mandya also” Rangappa  said.

It was estimated that Rs 46 crores required establishing mini campus at chamarajnagara, where the university already   taken up various courses. In addition the master degree in English, Political science journalism would be commenced from this academic year, he added.

He said the university has taken up the project of ladies hostel at the cost of Rs 2 crores in chamarjanagara, for which foundation stone would be laid on July 6. Chamarjanagara Loksabha minister  R Druvanarayan and noted artiest and rajya sabha member B. jayashari  already sanctioned Rs 25 lakhs each  for the same project.

The university already submitted their proposals to the government to include in their proposed budget which would be presented this month. He also said that the university has been preparing a plan to celebrate 100 years of the university and seeking more funds from both union human resource ministries as well as from the university grants commission, he added.

He said  Union Human resource Minister DR Pallam Raju will declare  open the university’s institute of excellence centre on July 5.  There are three projects  ,    project  at the cost of R s 50 crores,   university potential excellence with cost of Rs 9 crores  and promotion of university  research  and scientific education  which would be housed at the centre .

The university has plans to open Master degree in history in the evening colleges and propose to open the Law degree  and M.Com from next academic  year, since it was great demand for these subjects , he added.

Replaying to question on controversial appointment of university registrar he said that there was no violation and government has issued an order in this effect and university has to accept it.

 

93d Annual Convocation of University of Mysore to be held at Crawford Hall on July 5

Aero space scientist Padma Vibhushan Prof Reddam Narasimha and other three distinguished personalities will be conferred with honorary doctorates.  Mysore Varsity Vice-Chancellor Prof K S Rangappa disclosed this to journalists today. “They will receive honorary doctorates at the 93d Annual Convocation of University of Mysore to be held at Crawford Hall on July 5” he said.

He said that  the others who have been conferred with honorary doctorates are renowned cricketr Anil Kumble,  Freedom fighter and social worker  DR H Srinivasiah and legal  luminary , secretary general of  loksbha, T K Vishwanathan .

Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Dr M M Pallam raju  will deliver the convocation address.

He will later confer degrees on 21,038 candidates including11,7585 women, Ph.D on 363 candidates including 132 women in as many 50 subjects  and present 298 medals and 159 cash awards among 184 candidates including 104 women.

While 3,278 candidates including 1,833 women will be conferred with Master degrees, 16947candidates including 9793 women will be conferred with Bachelor degrees, he said.

Among the PhD holders 72 year old chairman of all India town planning MR Mishram and   Smt Mohan kumari wife of Karnataka cooperative minister H S Mhadeva Prasad.
