Bangalore, June 8, 2013:

To expedite the application process in view of the high demand for passports, a ‘Passport Mela’ was organised by the Regional Passport Office (RPO), today from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at the two Passport Seva Kendras (PSK) at Lalbagh Road and Marathahalli in Bangalore.

1290 appointment slots were made available to passport seekers, who visited the PSK(s) to get their passport applications processed. The appointment slots to register for the Passport Mela were made available at 6:30 pm on June 1, 2013 and all appointments were booked by the citizens.

The Passport Mela was announced to ease the rush of applicants and make the passport services available to more people. In total 855 passport applications were successfully processed during the Passport Mela.

The Bangalore RPO is handling more than 1600 applications daily, five times more than it used to handle three years ago.

The initiative was well-received as PSK employees assisted applicants by working extra hours. The applicants were also satisfied with the state-of-the-art infrastructure, technology upgrades to speed-up processes as well as improved amenities that ensured timely processing of the applications.
