Enarada,Udupi, June 25, 2013:

The police who have not made any headway in the Manipal gang-rape incident have today released the CCTV footage to the media, a day after they released the sketch of one of the suspect in the incident.  They have also announced a reward of Rs. 2 lac to anyone giving concrete information about the suspects.

Releasing the CCTV footage the IGP pointed out that the police have interrogated 30 persons and so far a total of 47 people have been interrogated.  He also stated that they have got good response from the public for the sketch released yesterday but have not been able to get information on the suspects they are looking for.

The IGP stated that so far 7000 autos have been checked and remaining 3000 autos will be checked in the next two days. He thanked the auto drivers for their full cooperation in carrying out the investigation and sought the cooperation of all in nabbing the culprit.

In another significant development the Auto Drivers Union of Manipal took out a procession from Tiger circle to the police station urging the police not to harass the auto drivers in the incident.  While they assured the police of their full cooperation, they pointed out that the police harass them by coming to their homes at odd hours under the pretext of interrogation.  They also stated that they are ready to come for any interrogation but only during day time.

In response to their demand the police said they cannot stop the process of investigation just because the auto drivers protest.
