The management committees of private educational institutions in city and district have urged the Education Department to clear the prevailing confusion in the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

A delegation of the members of CBSE, ICSE and State Private Educational Institutions’ Management Association, led by Association Vice-President and Kautilya Vidyalaya Chairman R. Raghu, met the In-charge Deputy Commissioner Naga Naik, here today  and gave clarification over the show-cause notice issued to some private schools for not implementing the RTE.

“The writ petition filed in the Supreme Court by the Association regarding the implementation of the RTE 2009, is still pending and the income certificate of the parents of students getting admitted to private schools under RTE need to be verified to see if they are authentic or not,” said Raghu and added it has been brought to the notice of the government that under the RTE, residential schools were given some lenience.

“Under such circumstances, issuing show cause notice to the educational institutions will create a wrong impression in the minds of public,” he said.

“It is said that some schools have been deliberately left out from being brought under the RTE and it is alleged that some senior officials in the Education Department are in the Management Committees of such schools,” said Raghu and added that though several complaints were lodged with the Education Department in this regard, there was no response.

“At present, the objective of RTE is being projected as only for admitting 25% financially poor students to private schools. However, the government must show commitment towards implementing compulsory education. But the government itself is closing down schools, thus violating the Act,” said Raghu and opined that the government must work towards improving the quality of government schools and pay attention to private schools.

“Some well-to-do parents are taking undue advantage of the RTE by getting their wards admitted to private schools using fake income certificates,” alleged Raghu, adding, “We are committed to implement all the directives of the RTE and our concern is that genuine students must avail the benefits under RTE.”

The DC in-charge assured to take steps to clear the confusion in the Act.
