ENARADA NEWS AND WEBCAST

ENARADA, Mysore, Aug 14, 2013:

As the State government has made it mandatory for the Grama, Taluk and Zilla panchayats in the State to hoist the national flag every day from August 15, there is a sudden increase in the sale of prescribed flags at khadi outlets and other shops in the city.

An outlet of the Khadi Gramodyoga Sahakara Sangha, Holenarsipur, one of the oldest khadi institutions in the State, on Dhanwantri Road here, has sold about two lakh national flags in over a week’s time. Sales are expected to pick up further in view of the Independence Day celebrations.

“We are running short of stock as the panchayat institutions from other districts are also buying flags from us,” said the Khadi Gramodyoga Sahakara Sangha store manager, Vasudevaiah.

The sangha has the khadi production unit at Holenarsipur in Hassan district and Badanaval in Chamarajanagar district. Mahatma Gandhi had visited Badanaval spinning and weaving unit where more than 200 weavers spin and weave khadi by hand. It also produces khadi cloth used to make national flags.

The flags to the sangha’s khadi store here and outlets of other institutions promoting khadi here come from the Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Federation, Bengeri, Hubli, and from a Sangha in Garag (near Hubli).

The National Flag Manufacturing Unit is located on the premises of the Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Federation in Hubli. Authorised by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), the unit produces the national tricolour in accordance to the standards prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
