Seized sand distributed to needy public

ENARADA, Mysore, July 26,2013:

The District administration in a major crackdown on illegal transportation of sand have seized 35 lorries transporting sand near the check-post on T.Narasipur Road on the outskirts of the city.

Nearly 303 lorry load of sand distributed to needy public at the government fixed rate of  Rs 7500 per load  at the check post.

The crackdown was led by Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, who had directed sale of sand to the needy buyers after effecting the seizure.

The normal procedure adopted by the culprits was to buy sand from PWD after paying Rs 4,500 in the form of a DD and to dump the sand at a designated place. The sand was later sold at exorbitant rates to gullible clients with rates ranging between Rs 16,000 and Rs20,000 per load.

A large number of Police personnel had been posted at points around the check-post to ensure that no lorry carrying illegal sand escape by taking deviation.

Assistant Commissioner Basavaraju, officials from Mines and Geology Department took part in the operation.
