The ancient Ramalingeshwara Temple in Bidadi had closed for a day due to Lunar Eclipse on April 4 after the early morning pooja. The temple was reopened in the night at 8:00pm and three priests headed by main priest Kumar entered the Girbagruha and started preparing for special abhisheka and decoration for Shiva Linga. They did not have any idea what was in store for them.
They removed old flowers on the deity to facilitate Jal Abhishek and preparing for special pooja like how they did in the past on special occasions.
After few minutes, Shashi, one of the priests noticed something is lying at the corner of the Garbhagriha and assuming it as a rope he tried to remove it. To his surprise it was a real snake and he immediately withdrew himself . The snake moved towards the deity and opened its hood.
As the news spread, people started coming in large numbers and the temple management was unable to control the crowd.
Meanwhile, the snake was firmly seated next to Shiva Linga and some elders suggested not to disturb the snake as it has appeared on the day of eclipse, and continue with pooja to deity as usual.
Temple authorities confirmed that Shashi brought a plate and placed the snake inside the plate while other priests did abhisheka and alankara to Shiva Linga. The snake was released safely in the secluded area in Bidadi around 11:30pm.
