Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev says India should ban slaughter houses and not Jallikattu.

With Tamil Nadu youth agitating on the streets demanding the reversal of ban on Jallikattu by Supreme Court, the spiritual leader says that Jallikattu was very much necessary as it has kept the youth fit and made them away from alcohol!

In a video released on his official FB page, Sadhguru says Jallikattu reflected the tradition of Tamil Nadu where the youth enjoyed it without harming the animal. It was also a wrong notion that bulls were harmed as there have been no instances even if it meant humans were injured.

He also said that it was a shame to ban Jallikattu on the pretext of animal rights when India continued to be the world’s top exporting nation of beef.

His argument stems from the fact that India exported 2.4 million tonnes of beef and veal in 2015, compared to 2 million tonnes by Brazil and 1.5 million by Australia. India itself accounts for 23.5 per cent of global beef exports. This is up from a 20.8 per cent share from 2014. Newspaper reports quoting Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) shows that India’s buffalo meat is exported to Asian countries — Asia receives more than 80 per cent, while Africa takes around 15 per cent.

So, Sadhguru’s mantra is stop slaughter and not Jallikattu!
