Vaikunta Ekadashi or Mukkoti Ekadashi which falls during Dhanur masa in Hindu calendar is an important day for all Vishnu temples.
The devotees visiting temple this year may likely to surge as it falls on January 1, 2015, the beginning of new year. In United States and UK it is observed on December 31, 2014.
Yoga Narasimha Temple situated in Vijayanagar at Mysuru is set to celebrate Vaikunta Ekadashi with special poojas starting from 4:30am onwards.. Special arrangements are made for the devotees to have darshan of lord Vishnu after going through special Vaikunta dwara(Entrance).
Vaikuntha Ekadashi is prominently observed in Tirumala Venkateswara Temple at Tirupati ,Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam, Bhadrachalam Sita Ramachandraswamy temple and all other temples dedicated to Bhagvan Vishnu and his incarnations in South India.
Dhanur month or Dhanurmasa is known as Margazhi month in Tamil Calendar. Vaikuntha Ekadashi is known as Swarga Vathil Ekadashi in Malayalam Calendar. Vaikunta Ekadashi is observed in Pushya month as per Telugu Calendar.
Vaikuntha Ekadashi is observed according to Solar Calendar and because of that it might fall either in Margashirsha or in Pausha month in Hindu Lunar calendar. In Gregorian calendar there might be none, one or two Vaikuntha Ekadashis in a year.
