ENARADA, Bangalore, December 10, 2013:

Virtually bringing an end to a legendary royal lineage, Mr Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadeyar, the last scion of Mysore Royal family, popularly known as Yaduvamsha, died due to a massive heart attack at multi-speciality hospital in the Bangalore city today.

The world famous Mysore palace was closed late this afternoon soon after the news of demise of the scion. Large number of people gathered at K R Circle to mourn for the death of the Mr.Wadiyar.

Tourists who visited the palace were evacuated while pooja was stopped at the temples inside the sprawling palace premises.

The Mysore city business establishments downed the shutters closed and the cinema halls cancelled their rest of shows.

Born on February 20, 1953, the 60-year-old Prince was the only son of Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, the last ruler of Mysore Kingdom and his second wife, Maharani Tripura Sundari Ammani Avaru.

He leaves behind his wife Pramodadevi Wadiyar and five sisters.

Mr Wadiyar succeeded his father as the head of his dynasty in September 1974. However he remained the Prince of the royal family as he was not coronated.

He was four-time Member of Parliament elected from Mysore on Congress ticket. He had lost the election twice- once each as a BJP and a Congress party candidate.

He married Pramoda devi wadyar  on 2 February, 1976. She hails from the Bettada Kote Urs family of the erstwhile princely state of Mysore.

Mr Wadeyar, was recently elected as President of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) defeating ace cricketer Anil Kumble faction. He had played for Mysore University as an all-rounder during his college days in 1970s. He was also the Captain of the University team.

All his education from primary to master degree level, M A ( pol sc ) LL.B . took place in Mysore city.  He had passed Western Classical Music Practical Piano Forte senior examination with merit and theory intermediate from Trinity College of Music, London.

He was an acknowledged fashion designer and a promoter of Mysore silk sarees under his Royal Silk of Mysore brand name.
