Mysore, May11,2013;

Kreeda Kaushalya, an expo of traditional Indian board games organised by Ramsons Kala Pratishtan (RKP), began in the city of palaces at Prathima Gallery here.

The event showcases hundreds of board games like ‘aliguli’, ‘aadu-puli-aattam’, ‘pachisi’ and their regional variations sourced and specially commissioned by the RKP for this event. The sale and exhibition will conclude on May 26.

“Board games need a fresh transfusion of life,” says R.G. Singh, RKP secretary. “From time immemorial they were an intrinsic part of family and social life. The event displays the diversity of such games,” he added.

Visitors are encouraged to try each game at the 16-day fiesta. The RKP Trust hopes that the expo will motivate visitors to find out more about the board games, and help in creating a research database of such games, the release added.

The trust was established in 1995 to nurture, foster and share traditional handicrafts and encourage craftspersons in the country, the release added.

RKP curator Raghu Dharmendra said the pratishtan plans to hold a board games competition during this exhibition. Depending on the response to this competition, State- and national-level competitions will be held, he said in the release.
