The security lapse created a panic inside the Indigo aircraft today when staff left an unclaimed cabin luggage unattended and forgot to inform the crew.
Bhubaneshwar bound flight Indigo 6E 266 which left Kempegowda International airport in Bengaluru this morning had stopped at Hyderabad airport at 7:35am. After the Hyderabad passengers alighted, security staff of the airlines started checking the boarding pass of the passengers travelling to Bhubaneshwar and the cabin luggage at the Rajiv Gandhi International airport at Hyderabad. To verify the luggage, they started pulling each and every luggage to show it to respective owners. No one identified the black coloured baggage kept in the cabin and security staff hid that baggage in the leg space of seat number 3C and left the scene without informing their higher authorities.
After few minutes, passengers from Hyderabad who boarded the flight found the trolley bag was blocking their entry to row number 3. Alerted by the commotion created, Air hostesses called in the security staff again and senior security staff failed to identify the owner as the bag did not have a tag. As they repeatedly requested for passengers to identify the bag there was a panic created among staff and passengers as none came forward to claim the bag.
One of the pilots came out of cockpit after Air hostess informed the situation and to the surprise of everyone, he admitted that the big trolley bag belongs to him. Passengers and staff were relieved when he took his luggage inside the cockpit as there was no space left in the cabin to place his luggage.
Confirming the incident to Enarada.com Air hostess of Indigo airlines, Ms.Udita said that this was the first time she witnessed such an incident in her long career. “The luggage belonged to our pilot Karan Saigal but security staff made a blunder,” Udita said.
