Walk around Nandi Hills to purify your soul

Nandi hill is undoubtedly the most popular hill station near Bengaluru. Every day, hundreds of tourists head to Nandi hills either through trek or motorable road. However, hundreds of pilgrims walked around the Nandi hills as part of the holy Nandi Pradakshine on Monday.

Nandi Pradakshine is a holy ritual where in devotees walk 18 kilometres on foot around the mighty Nandi hills. The devotees believe that those who cannot make it Kashi can attain soul purification by walking around Nandi hills. eNarada Picture.

Every year, Nandi Pradakshine is organised on the last Monday of the lunisolar calendar of Ashada month. The devotees believe that Nandi hills (which is home to Yoga Nandeeshwara temple) and also an origin place of rivers like Arakvati and Pennar has powers to bless the people.

The pradakshine began as early as 5.30 AM from Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple. While those who could not walk the entire 18 kilometres, chose to walk half way also. Even the localites had made elaborate arrangements to welcome the walkers by setting up stalls all along the route to distribute biscuits, snacks, water, butter milk, coffee and dry fruits.
