The sun rays falling on Lord Shri Gavigangadhareshwara swamy (Shivalinga) at the renowned Cave Temple, ‘Sri Prasanna Parvati sametha sri Gavi Gangadeshwaraswami Temple’ in Gavipuram, Bengaluru, during Uttarayana Punyakala in the evening of Makara Sankranthi on January 14 every year, is popular.
But an interesting study conducted by scientist Dr.B.S.Shylaja and her students reveals sun rays also falls on the same Shivalinga on November 29, 30 and December 1 every year.
Dr. B.S.Shylaja, Scientist and the Director of Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, speaking to Enarada.com said according to scientific calculations, if the sun rays falls on particular area on January 14, it should also falls on the same spot on November 29, 30 and December 1, without fail.
The sun rays falls on this Shiva linga every year on January 14. When Enarada.com team visited the temple today to check the claim made by scientist that sun rays falls on the deity on other days too, there were bright tube lights glowing all around the caves inside the temple premises, Shiva linga was covered with flowers and due to cloudy weather, sun rays were not visible. The sun rays enters from arch created in the compound wall (Shiva Dwara), passes through Main window (Maha Dwara), reaches small window (Surya Dwara)and falls on Shiva Linga though Nandi’s head every year on the day of Makara Sankranti on January 14. Now, the study throws light on similar passage of sun rays on other days as well.
