Bangalore, May 14, 2013:

After announcing freebies to AHINDA and poor, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seems to score one more point by appeasing poor and labour class. It is learnt that Siddaramaiah has directed the State Excise Department to explore the possibility of introducing a “cheap and safe” liquor brand for the poor and labour class.

After a meeting with heads of almost all departments on Tuesday,  Siddaramaiah said, that the poor, especially the labour class, had been hit hard ever since arrack was banned in the State.

Arrack was banned in the state by the JDS- BJP coalition government in 2007.

Siddaramaiah said that the poor and labour class had been forced to depend on expensive liquor. He, therefore, directed the officials to prepare a detailed report on the cheap liquor brand and submit it to the government.

Siddaramaiah held an eight-hour non-stop meeting, aimed at preparing a new budget, at his chamber in Vidhana Soudha. He reviewed performances of about 25 departments, including the Finance, Planning, Energy, Water Resources, Revenue and Urban Development.

He also directed to cut down wasteful expenditure and increase tax collection. The Finance department was also asked to prepare a white paper on the State finance.

Step Down or else: Meanwhile Siddaramaiah directed that the Chairpersons and members of all boards and corporations should step down immediately. They have been appointed by the previous government and should resign when the new government assumes office. He also warned to take legal steps if needed. ENN
