Mysore, April  29, 2013:

For the first time in the history of Assembly elections in State, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has made arrangements to distribute Voter’s Identity Slips (VIS) at the door-step of the voters beginning tomorrow.

This is part of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) mooted by the ECI.

An official press release issued here today said that the process of getting the slips ready was on for the Krishna raja, Chama raja and Narasimharaja constituencies and for those in Chamundeshwari constituency at Taluk Office here.

The VIS is mandatory for casting vote along with the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC). The VIS is said to contain the voter’s photo, electoral part number and details of the polling booth. Hitherto, political parties used to issue VIS at the door-step of voters which has been now stopped by the ECI.

Booth-level officers, Revenue Inspectors and others have been entrusted with the task of distribution of VIS which also confirms the inclusion of the voter’s name in the list.

The total number of voters in the district is 20, 98,578 with 10, 33, 065 females.

There are 2,578 polling booths with 978 identified sensitive and 520 hypersensitive the release added.
