ENARADA,Mysore, Aug. 8,2013:
In order to encourage and boost the medicinal plants, the state government has plans to launch ‘green village’ (hasiru grama) across the state, announced B. Shivanagowda, additional principal chief conservator of forests here today.
Inaugurating a day long workshop, he said that this project will be established in every forest division to increase the cultivation of medicinal herbs which are on the verge of extinction.
He said that the cultivation of the medicinal plants mostly on the borders of the forest. It would be monitored by the Village Forest Committee (VFC) members along with native doctors. He assured that the department would provide all assistance to people who intent to take up this venture.
“There was great demand not only within the country but also in abroad for medicinal plants like Shathavari, makaliberu and gowri hoovu and the government has plans to hold a expo in which the manufacturing units can buy the medicinal plants”, he added.
Chief Conservator of Forests (Bamboo mission) A.C. Keshavamurthy , believed that this scheme would help in for the health Tourism in the state besides which would give them chance of marketing their products.
Large number of Farmers, native doctors and VFC members are participated in the programme which discussed the ways and means of marketing of medicinal herbs.
