Edging out the stiff challenge of Union Labour and Employment Minister M Mallikarjuna Kharge, Siddaramaiah was today elected Leader of CLP, paving the way for his swearing-in as Chief Minister.
The announcement was made by Defence Minister A K Antony, head of a four-member AICC observers team that oversaw the CLP meeting.
Indicating that the choice was not easy, secret balloting route was adopted.
Only Siddaramaiah would be sworn-in as Chief Minister. KPCC President and Siddaramaiah would visit New Delhi to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi and finalise the list of Ministers.
Parameshwara and Madhusudan Mistri, the Congress General Secretary in charge of State, later drove to Raj Bhavan, conveyed to the Governor H R Bhardwaj about the CLP decision and requested him to invite Siddaramaiah to form the government.
