If a student leaves studies without completing the degree and starts working, his or her educational qualification remains as 12th standard pass but not as 1st year or 2nd year Degree, and this pattern should be changed in the present educational system, said Dr.S.S. Mantha, Former Chairman , AICTE.

He was delivering a lecture on ‘ E-governance and skill development’ in the workshop on “To Exchange and Learn Best Practices in Education’ organised by Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Bengaluru.

“One(Employment) talks about skills and other(Employability) talks  about the opportunities one gets for employment. If  somebody gets into a Bachelors in science program and if he drops out after the 2nd year then his basic qualification is still 12th. So therefore there is a lot of structural rigidity in the current education system and we need to make it more flexible,” Dr. S.S.Mantha said.

Dr.P.Balaram, Former Director of IISC, Bengaluru and Dr. Raghunath K Shevgaonkar, Director, IIT, New Delhi too addressed the Vice Chancellors of all the Universities from Karnataka in the workshop.
