Bangalore, May 5, 2013:

An estimated 70 per cent of the electorate exercised their franchise in today’s Karnataka Assembly elections, Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha told reporters this evening.

Average voting till 5 pm was 63.09 per cent, he said.

Polling was held in 223 Assembly segments from 7 am to 6 pm.

In Bangalore urban areas, which account for 28 seats in the 224-member Assembly, average voting till 5 pm was 52 per cent or so, which was better that the previous elections in 2008.

Bangalore Rural district reported highest polling of 77.95 per cent, and Bangalore Urban the lowest at 52.83 per cent, according to officials of the Election Commission tonight.

None of the election-related incidents that was reported today was of the nature that calls for repoll, he said.
