ENARADA, Mysore, July 5, 2013:
Union minister for human resources development DR M M Pallram raju today underlined the need for an education which would play major role in providing knowledge and skills required for sustained growth of the economy and to ensure overall development of the country.
Delivering the 93rd convocation speech at the University of Mysore here he said that the higher education does not stop at knowledge alone; it goes beyond and embraces wisdom. The objective of higher education is to inculcate such wisdom.
“Country has made substantive progress since the independence in all fronts, but there was a room for improvement , in the sense, that it has not been able to wipe out hunger completely, not provided shelter to all and unable achieve 100 percent literacy throughout the country” he said.
Claiming that the under the UPA government in the country after implementing the RTE act about 23 crores of children have been taking education since last three years. To provide quality of education was a commitment of the government and it was imperative to work for the nation building, he said.
He assured all necessary help would be extended to the University of Mysore in their efforts to make it as world Class University to compete with other such universities at the global level.
Earlier Karnataka governor and chancellor of university of Mysore Hans raj bhardwaj conferred the honorary doctorate degrees to Indian aerospace scientist and fluid dynamicist prof roddam narasimha, international cricketer anil kumble and freedom fighter and social worker DR M Srinivasiah and doctorate of laws degrees to MR T K Vishwanthan, secretary general of loksabha on the occasion.
Top gold medalist of the University of Mysore M N Vanitha , done her M.sc received the honour from the governor with big round of apples the from the gathering at the renovated craw ford hall the university administration office. She got 12 gold Medals and 4 cash prizes.
Later the Union Human resource Minister DR Pallam Raju also declared opened the university’s institute of excellence centre.
Karnataka higher education minister and pro-chancellor of the university of Mysore R V deshpande was also present on the occasion.
Later in the afternoon Karnataka co-oeprative minister H S Mahadeva Prasad presented the various degrees, medals to the students in a presentation ceremony.
Incidentally, the co-operative minister‘s wife Smt Mohan kumari M.C. also received the Phd. Degree on the occasion. She received the certificate from Cricketer Anil Kumble .
