ENARADA, Hubballi, November 28, 2014

Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 for two days as tension prevailed  in parts of Old Hubballi when group of youths pelted stones at vehicles this evening.

Protesting the circulation of derogatory message against their community on mobile messaging service WhatsApp, members of a particular community expressed their desire to observe a Bandh on Friday evening, but the elders of the community did not agree fearing unnecessary conflict.

Elders tried to convince the crowd that police have already arrested few youths in the connection and there is no necessity for protest. However, angered youth ignored the elders message and went on rampage.

The tension which started at Old Hubballi bridge near Kasaba Pet police station, spread to other areas like a wildfire. Police resort to mild lathicharge and brought the situation under control. Business establishments downed the shutters and Kasabapet, Kamaripet, Pendar Galli, Maratha Galli, Koppikar Road, Kalammana Agasi , Station Road and other areas wore a deserted look.
