The popular pan-Indian one-day annual art fair ‘Chitra Santhe’ organised by Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath (KCP) concluded today with a humble request by Art lovers to observe it as two-days event from next year.
In an attempt to bring art closer to public, KCP organises “Chitra Santhe – Art for All” event on every 1st sunday of the year and the 12th edition held today witnessed a huge response from general public.
B.L.Shankar, President, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath revealed there is a pressure from art lovers to conduct the event for two days in future. Shankar maintained that people gather for Cinema programs, Music, Comedy shows but lakhs of people arriving for the art sake is rare.
Expressing inability to visit all the stalls, art lovers felt extension of event will provide additional time to view art work in leisure but the determined KCP is not buying the idea owing to security reasons.
“Idea is good but providing security for the artworks during night and blocking the main road for so long is not practical as the event takes place all over Kumara Krupa Road,” said Shankar.
D.K.Chowta, General Secretary of KCP said ‘Chitra Santhe’ with 1200 stalls attracted 4 lakh people this year and succeeded in fulfilling the objective of reaching art to public.
