The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  has criticised Siddaramaiah led Congress government for trying to celebrate ‘Tippu Jayanti’ in the state and suggested the name of saint Shishunala sharif, in case the government is keen to go ahead with an event to appease minorities in the state.

Pralhad Joshi, President of Karnataka BJP, addressing journalists in the BJP office today, said Tippu Sultan was ‘Communal’ and any move to glorify him will not be tolerated.

He hinted his party would protest strongly if the government does not drop the idea.

“Tippu sultan was communal, anti-Hindu and wrote a letter to khalifa of Turkestan to attack India so that India can be turned into an Islamic country. He converted lakhs of Hindus to Islam forcefully by holding a sword in his hand, is all recorded in history,” said Joshi.

If government is keen to organise a program to spread communal harmony, great saint Shishunala Sharif who worked hard for communal harmony in the society can be chosen, said Joshi.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had announced last month that his government will celebrate Tippu Jayanti every year.
