GAIL extends financial assistance of Rs. 1.5 crore to Chikkaballapur Central Library

Chikkaballapur, March 14, 2013: 

GAIL (India) Limited, the youngest Maharatna Company under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, extended financial assistance for an amount of Rs. 1.5 crore for laying foundation stone for the construction of Hi-tech Central Library at  Chikkaballapur today under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Dr. M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, laid the foundation stone in presence of K H Muniyappa, State Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Industries (Independent Charge), A Narayanaswamy, Minister for Social Welfare, and Prison and District Minister, Chikkaballaapur and Revu Naik Belamagi, Minister for Library and Small Savings Karnataka and  B C Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL.

The foundation stone of the present District Library at Chikkaballapur was first laid by Dr. Sir M Visvesvarayya on 12th July, 1945 and the Library building was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharalal Nehru in presence of Nijalingappa, Chief Minister of the erstwhile Mysore on 17th July, 1962.

This historic Library Building presently has one hall, two rooms and a varandah and turned to district library from branch library in 2007 and it has five branch libraries, 151 Panchayat libraries, 4 slum dwellers’ library and one library for children. There are about 150,000 books available in these centres. The proposed new building will be of 90 feet x 95 feet floor area consisting of a basement for parking and a generator room, ground floor with computer room, a section for senior citizen, newspaper section, periodical section, and the first floor will have reading hall, meeting hall and an office. The second floor will have a mini auditorium.
