The IKEA team took eNarada team on an official visit to their Hyderabad store. During an interaction with eNarada, IKEA’s deputy country head Patrik Antoni said, “We want to be known as a knowledge company than being a mere furniture company.” He said the Hyderabad store has created many milestones. The IKEA India had 52 suppliers and 4 lakh people working in their supply chain.

In the next few years, IKEA is planning to set up stores in Gurugram, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Surat, Kolkata, and Chennai. “We want to reach 49 cities by 2030. Our advantage is local sourcing, community engagement, and sustainability. Online buying may start from next year (to begin with Hyderabad and Mumbai). We have invested Rs 100 crore in Karnataka,” said Antoni adding that to understand their customers, IKEA team was visiting various homes to understand the Indian market.

“We need to create products keeping Indian homes in mind. For example, kids sleep with parents in India and hence, our bedroom solutions had to include kids also. Indian homes had pooja rooms which played a significant role. Similarly, our IKEA restaurant started including local food. For example, we had added biriyani for Hyderabad and we may include some local food of Bengaluru in the IKEA restaurant in the Karnataka capital,” said Antoni.

Talking about the price factor, the IKEA team said that they offer around 7,500 articles in India out of which 95 percent of them had IKEA global range while around 5 percent of them had a price range that was specific to the Indian market.
