Mangalore, April 18, 2013:
The Nehru Maidan in the city is getting ready for the three day Ramotsava to be held From April 19, 2013 onwards. Ramotsav is organized by Sri Ramotsava Samiti in association with Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bhajrang Dal, Durgavahini and Mathru Mandali.
Pushparaj Jain, President of Ramotsava Committee addressing a press conference at Nehru Maidan said that this has been the 12th year of Ramotsava and the main reason of celebrating the event is to demonstrate how the values and principles of Lord Rama are relevant even to this day.
Pushparaj pointed out that about 25,000 devotees are expected to take part in the utsav. A number of cultural programmes such as skits, plays, dance-dramas etc., will be held on all the three days of the Utsav. As part of the celebration the organizers are planning to conduct Narthana Bhajan competition on Friday, April 19th in which 18 teams from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district are expected to participate.
A 25-feet tall Ravana statue will be erected at the venue of the utsav and the celebration will be concluded with “Ravana Dahana” (burning of Ravana’s effigy) on April 21, Sunday at 8 pm. /ENN
