That English language to India is a colonial heritage is well known.  But the language which originated in England was first institutionalized by India and Africa even before it was institutionalized in the country of its origin.  Prof Rajeshwari Sundar Rajan, Professor of Department of English New York University said this while delivering the keynote address at the UGC sponsored two day national workshop “All Write” on “English for Specific purpose” held at St Agnes College, Mangalore on 19th September 2013.

The workshop was organized by the English Department of St Agnes College and Association of English Teachers of Mangalore University.

Prof Rajeshwari pointed out that there is a strong connection between the study of English and feminism and stated that it is not surprising to find more women than men studying English literature.  This was mainly because the subject was soft option for women in terms of academic values and professional requirements.  She also pointed out that English has become an interdisciplinary language because of its usage and communication worldwide.

Prof Annie Chandy Mathew, Director of Unisun Publications, Dilip D Souza a Mumbai based writer and journalist and Mamatha Rai, Research & Communications Manager (APAC)  Intel Labs  are the other resource persons  in the workshop.

The workshop emphasized on the writing skills in English language.  Faculty and students of English literature participated in the workshop.
