In an age where people leading by personal example is fast dwindling, Mangalore District Commissioner N Prakash has set an example for others to emulate by removing the red beacon on his vehicle in compliance of the Supreme Court ruling of April this year.
In April this year the Supreme Court had given the centre and the state time till second week of July to comply with its orders by initiating steps to amend the motor vehicles act and rules. It urged the central and state government to take remedial measures on the usage the red beacons and sirens and to drastically reduce the number of constitutional authorities who use these facilities on their vehicles.
While other top officials are hesitant to get rid of this facility of flashing red light, Prakash has set an example by being the first one to follow this rule in Mangalore. He got the red beacon from his car removed, much to the consternation of other top officials who are reluctant to let the privilege go by but now will be forced to follow.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court has extended these facilities only to Governors, Chief Ministers, assembly speakers, Chairpersons of legislative council, Chief Justices and judges of the high court.

If this is the truth, justice and fair play that their God advocates, we will need much more than the Bajrang Dal / VHP combine to make the world realize that Hindus too feel pain and angst .Who will tell the civilized world about the book Sathyadarshini ?Who will project our perspective to the world ?Who will speak up for the Hindus ?
