An under construction vented dam being constructed under the minor irrigation work of the government at Mudungarukatte in Balepuni village has collapsed today.
Though heavy rains are cited as reasons for the collapse, locals blame it on the substandard quality of the work for the mishap.
The dam is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 50 lakhs and the project got sanctioned by U T Khader a few months ago when he was the MLA.
Work on the dam with a 15 ft width and 10 ft depth began two months ago. It is said that concretization of one side was completed and the concretization of the other side was underway. The wooden planks of the concrete work were removed just yesterday and the dam had collapsed within a day.
Fortunately, there are no casualties in the mishap.
