In a rare incident, a tantrik of palamnimadu village near ramanagara in Kollegal taluk in chamarajangara district who preserved his mothers’ body in a glass case and offered poojas even after three months of her death.
lakshmi, mother of Tantrik Muniswamy , died three moths back, but due to blind faith and affection on her, Muniswamy kept her body in a class case at a cost of Rs 2 lakhs and offered poojas every day.
However, the body of lakshmi was cremated few days ago as police intervened following complaints from residents of the village, who expressed fears that rain gods had refused to bless them as the tantric was performing the rare and unusual ritual of performing poojas to dead body , police added.
The body of dead women covered with bricks and sand had been preserved in a glass box and placed atop of a swing in the tantrik’s house.
Meanwhile kollegal Dy Sp chennabasavanna, who visited the village said that they came to know about the incident only through the villagers.
According to villagers, it was the tantrik’s love for his mother that prompted him to undertake such a rare venture as he did not want his mother’s body to come in contact with earth.
Muniswamy’s eight brothers and sisters are residing in other places like madikeri, Karnataka and Tamilandu.
Muniswamy’s love for his mother was such that he reportedly started performing Pada poojas daily at the age of 14 and when villagers urged him to perform the last rites of his dead mother, he politely refused and said that ‘bury me first and then perform her last rites’. It was also said that he had not married fearing that it may lead to neglecting her, the villagers added.
Villagers initially thought that Muniswamy was performing miracles , had refrained from exerting pressure on him to cremate his mother, but police finally intervened and got her body cremated.
