Ambedkara birth anniversary celebrated

The District Administration in association with the Zilla Panchayat, Mysore City Corporation (MCC), Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and Social Welfare Department jointly organized a function to celebrate the 122nd birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in the city.

Regional Commissioner M.V. Jayanthi accompanied by Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha, City Police Commissioner K.L. Sudheer, Superintendent of Police R. Dileep, DCPs K.P. Bheemaiah and Shanthanu Sinha, MUDA Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, MCC Commissioner P.G. Ramesh, were  garlanded the statue of Dr. Ambedkar in front of Town Hall.

Chamarajanagar MP R. Dhruvanarayan and District in-Charge Minister S.A. Ramdas were among those who later offered floral tributes to the statue of Dr. Ambedkar.

Colourful procession: Braving scorching sun and dancing to the tunes of band sets, hundreds of volunteers of Adi Karnataka Maha Samsthe and Federation of Youth organisations today took out a colourful procession from Ambedkar’s statue in Ashokapuram to the Town Hall to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar.

Flagging of the procession, Ramdas described Dr. Ambedkar as a man with vision who provided a Constitution to the country which was the biggest democracy in the world.

Stating that the BJP government had released funds for construction of Ambedkar Bhavan in the city, he said that he was proud to be associated with a function of this kind and hoped that the next birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Ambedkar will be held in the Ambedkar Bhavan, works on which are in full swing.

The procession carrying the portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar placed atop a flower-decked four wheeler, accompanied by cultural troupes like Dollu Kunitha, Bombe Kunitha, Mangala Vadyas and bandsets in the company of tableaux carrying the messages of Dr. Ambedkar, passed through the main streets in the city
