State assembly polls scheduled for May 5, would cost nearly Rs 200 crore to the state exchequer

“The budget for the polls is Rs 200 crore. We are expecting an expenditure of about Rs 175 crore to Rs 180 crore.  Expenditure will be borne by the state government, which has already released Rs 100 crore” state chief electoral officer Anil Kumar Jha said.

Earlier Anil Kumar Jha held a meeting with officials of the Excise Department and instructed them to take steps to prevent illegal transportation of liquor and manufacturing of spurious liquor in districts.

All distilleries have been told to adhere to the model code of conduct during elections. There are 94 distilleries, including 23 wineries, in the State. Units have to manufacture liquor as per the indent given by the Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Limited./ENN
