In a goof-up, many polling officcials chosen for BBMP election duty were left high and dry due to communication gap.
As a normal practice, government employees selected for election duty used to get a written communication containing date and place of training.
Depending too much on technology, BBMP chose to update the details of polling officials on its website and allegedly did not communicate individually.
Officials had to search online about their training date and mustering center.

Officials searched the website and reported to their training center on the scheduled day and time mentioned. Majority took the training on August 16.
Many polling officers who did not receive any personal communication thought they were not selected for election duty and kept quiet.
Now on the eve of election, they are shivering as they learnt that their name indeed exists in the list of polling officials list.
When Enarada.com contacted few such officials, they exhibited innocence and said they have not received any communication including SMS, regarding election duty.
“I am not against doing the election duty but only yesterday I learnt that my name exists in the list. Now I am confused whether should I report to the center or refrain from duty as I have not attended the training session,” said an employee on the condition of anonymity.
Due to lack of required staff to conduct elections, even central government employees are roped in this year for BBMP elections. Postal department officials in Vijayanagar post office confirmed that, their colleagues have been given election duty for the first time in BBMP elections.
Public who went to send speed post at this centre after 3pm were sent back citing staff crunch due to election duty. Normally speed post will be accepted till 7pm. Interestingly, other employees who were not selected for election duty were discussing among themselves why holiday was not declared to them while it was given for state government offices.
