ENARADA, Bhubaneshwar, January 15, 2014:
The 38th Annual Conference of Odisha Orthopaedic Association & Eastern Zone Regional Orthopaedic Forum (EZROF) Conference was concurrently held at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), a constituent of KIIT University, from January 10 – 12, 2014.
A record number of 206 orthopaedic doctors from Odisha, West Bengal and North East participated in the conference and presented their research papers. Guest speakers from New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and London presented their research work and discussed their experiences with the delegates.
Padma Vibhusan Dr. K. H. Sancheti, noted joint replacement surgeon of Pune and Dr. B. K. Behera of KIMS, Organising Secretary of conference performed a difficult THR surgery on January 10 in Orthopaedic OT of KIMS to provide live demonstration to all the delegate. Standard of OT of KIMS is as good as any OT of New York Hospital and this OT is best for joint replacement surgery, said Dr. Sancheti after the surgery. He advised doctors to be humble to patients while treating them.
The 10th EZROF Conference was inaugurated by Prof. R. C. Mohanty, eminent orthopedic specialist of Odisha on January 11 in the presence of Dr. Sancheti, Prof. A. K. Jain, President, Indian Orthopaedic Association, Prof. P. P. Mathur, Vice Chancellor, KIIT University, Prof. B. C. Das, Principal, KIMS and Dr. K. M. Mishra, Associate Professor & President, Odisha Orthopedic Association.
Prof. Das welcomed all the delegates to KIMS. Prof. Jain advised the doctors to do more research work and publish more papers in journals as India has more number of patients than foreign countries. Prof. Mathur congratulated the organising team of KIMS for success of the conference.
The conference was organized by Dr. B. K. Behera, Associate Professor, Orthopedic, KIMS. Election of the office bearer of Odisha Orthopaedic Association (OOA) was held on the concluding day, in which Prof. S. N. Mohanty of KIMS was elected as President. Dr. Behera was elected as Vice-President, while Dr. N. C. Mohapatra of SCB Medical College and Hospital will continue as Hon. Secretary of the Association.
